Did you know that by choosing the perfect colors you can improve your health and relationships?

Do you find yourself responding a certain way to specific colors? Does the color black make you feel powerful? Does yellow make you feel happy? Do blues calm you?

If you’re curious just how color does affect the human body, try reading the book Color Harmony for Better Living by Mary Lambert. In this book, you’ll discover that we all have subconscious personal “color-codes” guiding us every day.

Do you believe it? I do. I am powerfully moved, every single day, by color. White walls make me feel dull and lifeless, not to mention cold. Creating an all-white greeting card is nearly impossible for me to do. But a room filled with color energizes and excites me! How do I feel about color on cards?? Not a surprise, the more color the better!

According to author Mary Lambert, people use color therapeutically when they find themselves going through emotional, mental or physical changes in their lives. I find this to be so true in my own life. Depending on the time of year, I am attracted to very specific colors associated with each season. Around springtime, the colors I choose when designing my cards quickly changes from the dark, cozy colors of fall and winter to the bright, warm colors of spring and summer. Something I recently discovered about myself is that because I am an introvert by nature, I am attracted to bright, cheerful, loud colors and patterns because it gives me the chance to express myself in ways I am unable to verbally. This was a real eye-opener for me!

Color Harmony for Better Living focuses on the different areas of our lives and the color psychology behind each area. Color and Clothes, Color and Our Moods, Foods for Stimulation and Balance, Color and Your Body, are just a few of the subjects you can learn about in this interesting book. More advanced chapters deal with your body’s chakras (chakras are the seven main energy centers of the body), crystal healing, meditating with color, and Fung Shui. The latter topics are a bit too complicated to explain in this short review, so if you want to learn more about them, buy the book!!

Yes, I highly recommend Color Harmony for Better Living. I’ve had it in my collection for many years. It is filled with wonderful information, and as artists, it’s an essential book to have on hand if you desire to learn more about the colors you work with everyday. It will be helpful to you as a designer, it will be helpful to you as a businessperson, and it will be helpful to you as a human being.
