Reported by Heidi KingeryI had heard of the paint that you could use to give what you were painting a chalkboard surface. I had also heard of wallpaper. What I hadn't heard of, was Wallies peel and stick chalkboard.
What a great idea! It's a no mess, no fuss way to add a touch of personalization to your space or project. The chalkboard pieces aren't the only thing Wallies has going for them, but we'll get to that later! When I opened my packaged, I noticed that, as Melissa said yesterday, the chalkboard pieces were rolled up inside a rectangle box. However, other than the curve of the paper, there were no creases in mine and I had notrouble smoothing them out once I peeled off the backing and placed them down.
I chose to work with the Slate Gray Chalkboard sheets and the Geo Pods. The Slate Gray Chalkboard sheets come in 9" x 12" sheets with 2 per pack at $9.99 and also include 2 pieced of white chalk. Now, there are many ways you could use these, as illustrated in several areas of their website. However, I wanted to try and think of a use that I hadn't seen yet. When I saw this lap desk, I knew it was my perfect project. With homeschooling my daughters, we move from room to room and place to place. A lap desk was perfect to spruce up with these great self adhesive wonders. I placed my chalkboard piece on first and then scattered my Geo Pod flowers all around, even cutting one out. Once I had everything in place, I accented three of my outside chalkboard lines with my Sakura white Souffle pen. Once it dried, it stayed on perfectly. Those were just the right accents to be able to tell where the chalkboard ended and the lap desk began!
These peel and stick cutouts come in a large variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. Not all of their inventory is peel and stick though, several are the pre-pasted version. So, if you are looking for the peel and stick only, be sure to check before you add it to your cart!
Would you like to know my personal favorite part of working with these? If you don't get it right the first time, you really CAN try, try again! These are easily peeled off if you place it crooked the first time, or if you decide you'd rather have it 'over here', or even if you just get tired of it in the same place after a few weeks! It really is as simple as peeling it off and adding it somewhere else!
As you can see in the above picture, my daughter tried it out and really enjoyed it. She made a few mistakes and had to erase but had I not told you, I'm sure you wouldn't have been able to tell. We just wiped with a dry tissue and the chalk came off perfectly with no faint lines left behind! However, we did use our own chalk and not the ones that came in the package.
Pros
- Nice price for what you get.
- Their thinness makes them super easy to cut, run through your die cut machine, and put just about anywhere.
- Easily removed if you need to re-do or decide to change scenery.
- Although I didn't have a problem with creasing on my blackboard sheets, it would be nice if they were packaged flat. It was hard to just lay it down in a spot to see if I liked it there.
- Their website could be more clear on which pieces are not self adhesive. They do a nice job on telling which ones are but I'd love to see 'pre-pasted' under the product name.
- Chalk that was included was not very smooth and didn't erase well.
