Golden fluid acrylic paints are highly pigmented artist grade paints. These are not your inexpensive $1 a bottle paint that you can get at the big box stores. In fact they are quite spendy going for $3.63 to $6.15 per one ounce bottle, depending on the color. So, why in the world would you want to pay so much more for paint? At least that is what I thought when one of my friends first told me about this product. Now that I've tried it I finally get what all the fuss is about.
This paint is richly pigmented beyond anything I could have imagined. In fact you really should use it with the acrylic glazing liquid to extend the paint. If you get the glazing liquid, just a couple drops of paint are all you'll need. I use it for collage or mixed media work on canvas or acrylic paper. I would not use this to re-paint a shelf or table like I might with my less expensive craft paints. I have just a very few colors of this paint, but the great thing about it is that it mixes beautifully to make new shades. There is a wide variety of types of paint within this line including iridescent, metallic, sheer, and opaque paints. I am such a visual learner, so here are some samples to show you better than I can explain.
This shows what happens when I painted over text with golden. It is so sheer, allowing layers to be added for depth. Up there at the top where it looks cloudy is the paint mixed with titanium white which adds opacity.
Pros
- A little paint goes a long way
- Rich vibrant color
- Mixes beautifully
Cons
- Expensive
- Available at Art Supply shops, not craft stores
- Not child safe

In closing I'd like to point out that I think this product has great potential for traditional paper crafts, too. Just imagine a sheer swipe of paint over a journaling block or what it could do to change some of those out of date patterned papers. You can make amazing backgrounds for cards that will rival anything on the market. If you'd like to try out this paint before you invest in it, Golden has working artists in many parts of the world who give free demonstrations. I hope there is one near you soon. Have you tried using this paint? Let us know your thoughts!
