Hot Wax Stylus Tool with Suze Weinberg at CHA Summer 2009

Part of the fun of CHA is that you meet people you've seen on TV, read online, or pored over their books. I got to meet Suze Weinberg of Ranger. Most of you know her from her Melt Pot action, but I got to see her showing off her Hot Wax Art Stylus.

It comes with three tips: a calligraphy tip for fine work, a spade for large areas, and a brush tip. It also has a wire brush to clean off the tips effectively. She was showing us how she melts her highly pigmented beeswax blocks directly onto a wood surface to create color and texture, but uncolored beeswax would work for encaustic techniques. The kit comes ready to go for $24.95, and the wax blocks are sold separately.

The beeswax blocks are saturated with color-- not your average "crayon" type of wax at all! They are sold in some shades singly- such as white, black, and natural- but you can also buy 4-color packs as well to boost up your art (prices vary).

Here's a quick video I got of Suze demonstrating her tool at CHA Summer 09 in Orlando, Florida.

She was delightful to meet, and a real sport. If you have a Hot Wax Stylus, leave a comment and tell us what YOU think of it!

Very interesting - I'd definitely like to see more of it before I consider a purchase.

I would like to see her demonstrate the other tips, particularly the calligraphy tip as this is difficult to find and is what I am searching for. Does is just write into the wax or can you use it like a pen nib and leave raised writing on your work?
I have one and would like to replace it and would also love to have an extra stylus--just need to see more.
Thanks
