Resources: Free Font Sites

Reported by Taylor Usry

Every papercrafter loves fonts! They are great for scrapbooking, journaling, cardmaking, and all sorts of other applications. There are so many sites out there that provide downloadable fonts to use — and more than a few of them are available for free!

I thought I’d share a list of sites that provide free downloadable fonts so everyone could see it all in the same place, rather than searching for them whenever you need them. I asked around, and many of these sites came up over and over again from crafters — so I know they have good stuff!
So let’s get started. I’m listing these in no particular order (I’m not playing favorites):

Sugar Frog Fonts
This site has adorable handwriting fonts, created by two friends. A great feature that they offer is the ability to download all of the fonts in one big zip file.

Fonts For Peas
This is another site that offers handwriting fonts and sets of doodles. It’s a smaller portion of kevinandamanda.com, which is a great site!

More wonderful fonts from Kevin and Amanda (of Fonts for Peas). These are made specifically for scrapbookers!

This site has over 10,000 fonts! They are organized by theme, which makes for easy searching.

1001 Fonts
This site offers a “quick faq” which is helpful for first time visitors, and displays several list that help making a font choice easier — like “last 10 additions”, “top 10 rated”, and “10 most popular”.

This site has fonts available specifically for Macs, and offers a free tool to create free 3D logos.

This site has over 13,000 available fonts. It allows you the ability to enter custom text to preview with the font you are viewing, so you can decide if it is right for you before downloading.

Font Garden

Another site with oodles of handwriting fonts. They also have over 1300 dingbats available for download.

Urban Fonts

This site has over 8,000 free fonts and dingbats. It offers a “top search” category cloud, so you can see what others are looking for too.

This one has their fonts organized alphabetically, which doesn’t always make for the easiest searching — but you’ll find all sorts of fonts you didn’t know you needed that way!

Now that I’ve listed the ten sites that came up the most when I asked other crafters about the sites they love to frequent, I’ll share a quick list of other sites that are out there. I’m all about the enabling – -and free is everyone’s favorite price!

A quick note about these sites: Some I use personally and love. Others are recommendations from crafty friends. And still others I came across simply by doing a Google search. They may or may not be right for you. Quite a few have the option to upgrade to a paid membership which allows you more perks and fonts — but every one of them offers free downloads.

I hope you enjoyed this list, and get some good fonts out of it! Did I forget to mention a site you love? Share it in the comments section!
