I recently had the chance to review a very innovative new product, the Quick Snippers. They debuted at CHA in 2010 (the creators, Miriam and Lisa, both live in the Chicago area) but this was the first time I'd had a chance to hold them and check them out.  They retail for $19.95 and are available at the company website.  You can also check them out on their Facebook page. Today I'll show you some of the quick and easy things they can do.

The Quick Snippers came in a really pretty silver bag, that complemented the purple and silver product - I love things that match! And I'll admit, I was surprised at the size of them. I guess I had in mind that they would be Swiss Army knife-sized, but they are much bigger. They have a good weight to them, and the scissors are comparable to Cutter Bee scissors in actual blade length. The pictures really don't do the size justice! They are 1" across (so, the purple area you see pictured that says Quick Snippers is 1") and 1 1/2" tall (as pictured below).

The tool is designed to take the place of all those decorative edged scissors crowding your craft area. I happen to have one of those wooden stands that holds them - talk about a clunky space taker! I've tried storing them all in a bin, but then I have to root around for the right pair. The Quick Snippers make life so much easier! There are six different scissors in here:

• Victorian
• Zig Zag
• Lightening Bolt
• Scallop
• Corkscrew
• Straight

Each pair of scissors pulls out easily using the rounded purple pull tab. They also all feature a very nice comfort cushion for your thumb to rest on - great extra touch! No one likes sore fingers after cutting, and I have thrown out more than a few pairs of scissors because the weren't comfortable. My hands are average-size, I guess, so I could pretty easily hold the scissors while I cut. But for someone with smaller hands, that might be an issue.

First I tested out the scissors on Stampin' Up colored card stock. I thought that would be a good representation of how they would do for all heavy weight card stocks. It's important to remember, as the website also reminds you, that when you care cutting with decorative edge scissors, you should make your cut, align your spot (the last place you cut) and then make your next cut. My least favorite scissors were the straight edge ones, but I think that is mostly because I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. They all cut through the card stock with minimal problems. Occasionally I had some tearing of the edge - that seemed to happen when I went too fast.

I used the Lightning Bolt scissors to cut out a free hand Christmas tree - I think I'm going to use this on some holiday cards for next year!

I also tried out the scissors on regular designer paper (company unknown). Just like on the card stock, if I attempted to cut too fast, the paper would bend or tear. Once I slowed down a bit everything worked fine.

You can see in the picture above that I lined up the scallops before beginning the next cut. Also, happily, it is absolutely possible to use these scissors to cut rounded shapes out!

I don't have any fabric or felt in the house (a shopping trip is definitely in order - that is a problem that must be fixed!) but I did try out the scissors on some craft foam. It cut through the product so well! Just pretend it is in a straight line, though - more operator error!

Overall, I really liked the Quick Snippers! They are great for someone like me, who always has a shortage of storage space. They'll definitely help keep me organized. And I think they'll increase my use of decorative edge scissors, because now they'll be right here at my fingertips, instead of stored away. The Quick Snippers fit right in my desk drawer.

Pros:

• All your decorative edge scissors in one place
• Easy to use
• Great for small storage places

Cons:

• Might be hard for people with small hands to use (but they were fine for me)
• They only have 5 decorative edges, and one straight one - I need them to make a Version 2!
• There is a slight learning curve with these - you have to take the cutting slowly and remember to align your scissors each time
