Viva Decor Modeling Cream

Reported by Marti Wills

I'd like to share an AMAZING product with you - Viva Decor Modeling Cream. Modeling Cream is incredibly versatile and comes in 11 Metallic/Pearlescent Colors. It is a dimensional paste that will hold its shape while wet. It is very similar to embossing paste, and that is one of the ways I used it. A couple of handy tools can be seen above. I used both plastic and brass stencils, a plastic spreader and a sponge applicator/dauber tool.

In my first sample I used Pearl Light Green and a plastic Crafter's Workshop stencil. I simply laid the stencil on my paper and used the plastic knife pictured above to smooth the cream over the stencil and then lifted it off. In the close up above you can see the incredibly crisp edge I got. The Modeling Cream dries fast, so you must work quickly; be sure to either wash your stencil right away or keep a tub of water handy so you can drop the stencil into until you are ready to wash it.

Next I used it with a Dreamweavers Brass Stencil. Equally easy and equally amazing results. Again I got a crisp edge and the pearlescent luster is gorgeous!

Once dry I used both pieces for some cards:

Next I decided to try something a little different with it. In the picture above, notice the chipboard swirl peeking out from beneath the flower. I covered it with more modeling cream. Not only was the coverage complete, but I really liked the dimensional texture I got by using the sponge dauber.

It occurred to me that I might be able to make it look like icing on a cupcake. I thought since it stayed the way you mold it until it is dry it might be a great way to make a realistic looking icing. I cut a cupcake die cut on my Cricut and put it together. I wanted to bring the icing down a bit onto the wrapper like the real thing. I used the sponge dauber to pile on the icing. Then while it was wet I sprinkled it with microbeads to mimic sprinkles:

I LOVE the look I got. I bet it would be equally amazing if I swirled it on using a palette knife too, just like real icing. I used it on the bag below:

Pros:

  • The colors are rich and the pearlescent sheen is gorgeous
  • It is easy to work with and holds its shape perfectly
  • It dries quickly

Cons:

  • I wish it came in more colors
  • It dries quickly (yes this was a blessing and a curse - you must work fast while doing your stencils)
  • It can be hard to find

Do you own any of these Viva Decor Modeling Creams? How have you used it? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
