Vendor Spotlight: Glue Arts Wall Art Decor Adhesive & GIVEAWAY!

Reported by Taylor Usry

I recently had a chance to try out some different adhesives from Glue Arts – the 12″ x 12″ Wall Art Decor Adhesive (four sheets per package), the 5″ x 5″ Wall Art Decor Adhesive (ten sheets per package), and the Repositionable Refill/Disposable cartridge.

Glue Arts states that these wall adhesives can be put through “most die cut machines” and “can be removed with no damage to your walls.” The packaging also notes that when the adhesive is repositioned it will not leave residue. Well, my adorable four-year-old daughter recently moved into a larger room and I have not painted it yet – she has taken awhile to settle on just the right shade of pink! I decided her still-white walls would be the perfect testing ground for these adhesives, and we could use my Cricut and Cuttlebug to see how well they worked in different die cutting machines.

We sat down together, along with the die cutting machines, adhesives, and Prismacolor markers to start our project. She got to pick all of the bugs and flowers and color most of them herself. Arts and crafts time with kids is so fun! Whatever she didn’t color herself she picked the colors for.

I’ll admit that I went about cutting the adhesive incorrectly to begin with. I tried just putting a 6″ x 12″ sheet in the Cricut and cutting out a background, to adhere to an already cut out flower. However, it didn’t work at all. Although my mat was very tacky, the backing for the adhesive is slick and it slid all over the place. Then the lightbulb went off, and it occurred to me that I should apply the adhesive to my 6″ x 12″ piece of cardstock and then cut out my shapes. Happily, things worked like a dream after that revelation! The only drawback, in my opinion, is that with a sheet that large I had a hard time laying down the adhesive without creating bubbles and wrinkles. They smoothed out fairly easily, though.

Overall I was quite happy with the way that the Cricut cut through the adhesive and cardstock (note: the cardstock I used to cut in the Cricut was Georgia Pacific White, available at Wal Mart). The machine still cut smooth edges on large shapes (like the caterpillar). I did have some spots on more intricate images, like the hydrangea shown above, where the adhesive did not cut through cleanly. Since it is clear it really doesn’t show up on her white walls, but I can see that it might on colored walls. I don’t think it shows up well in the image above but I tried to highlight it with an arrow.

Next I tried the 5″ x 5″ adhesive sheet in the Cuttlebug, with Nestablities. I ran the adhesive through first, and it cut out perfectly. I adhered it to the back of a piece of Stampin’ Up cardstock. I had some extra uncut Georgia Pacific cardstock with adhesive already on the back, so I tested some punches out, too — with mild success. My Marvy Uchida Giga Scalloped punch worked like a dream. A Martha Stewart punch did relatively well (after 5 flowers, it started to have trouble); EK Success and Stampin Up! punches did not (which makes sense – SU punches are make by EK Success). The latter two would not cut through the paper/adhesive well, and when I tried to remove the semi punched paper it was quite the mess.

Once it was all colored the way my daughter wanted it, we adhered it all together and put it on the wall. We tested the repositionable feature by initially placing it higher than she wanted. When I tried to peel it off to lower it, I ran into a bit of trouble. It stuck so well I really had to pick at the cardstock, which left a noticeable wrinkle in the edge. I peeled it off slowly and was disappointed to find that the adhesive did leave residue that I have as yet been unable to remove from the wall. But the label did adhere again in a new spot quite well.

The last thing we tried was the repositionable disposable cartridge. I applied it to the back of some of the flowers and found this product to be wonderful. It works like any other tape dispenser – just roll it along the area where adhesive is needed. If you go over the edge it is easy to fold the adhesive back on itself so none of it is visible. It has held the flowers onto the wall every bit as well as the larger sheets of adhesive. Additionally I used this product to make a few cards, and they have held up well also. The only drawback I have found is that the repositionable cartridge does not seem to hold ribbon in place well at all — but I don’t know that ribbon was an intended use for it.

Here is my summary:

  • good buy for the money
  • adhesive is available in large or small sheets, as well as a small tape roller
  • provides opportunity for a wide variety of craft projects

  • does leave residue on walls
  • may not cut cleanly when used in some die cutting machines
  • hard to apply large sheets of adhesive all at once

I do think that this product is a great buy for the price, and works really well. I am slightly hesitant about the residue on the walls, but as far as it’s use as a general adhesive it is terrific. Have you tried it? What are your thoughts?

I have not tried the wall decor product. I do have a Glue Glider Pro Glue Gun and I LOVE IT! I don’t use the repositional tape, I use the Perma Tac and High Tac tapes. The gun and tapes are fantastic and easy to use. They are my go to adhesives for card making and mini books. I do wish though, that they would make a tape that was heat resistant. If you use this tape to adhere paper to card stock or chip board, and then want to emboss something on top of that, the tape will release and you will find that the paper will buckle. So if they could come up with a tape that has the same holding power, and is heat resistant – I would be in heaven!

I love Glue Glider Pro! This is my new favorite since Koyoko isn’t available anymore. I had an amazing experience with this company. I had bought 6 refills for scrapbooking and when I started using them the tape was not dispensing and kept breaking. I purchased them at a LSS that has closed their doors. I emailed Glue Glider on a Sunday afternoon to see if they would exchange them for me. I figured I might hear from someone sometime the following week after all do companies really response to email sent to contact us on websites?? Well I was in for a big shock…. in less then 10 mintues yes you read that right 10 minutes later on a SUNDAY I received a response from one of the girls via her IPHONE! Talk about amazing she said they back there product 100%. ( I think her name was Michelle) They sent me 6 new cartridges and a post paid envelope to send back the bad ones! Talk about Customer Service!!!! They ROCK and now I”m hooked and won’t use anthing else but Glue Glider

I bought the glue glider pro and a cartridge on the reviews of other sites. I only used it a very short period of time and the glue ribbon went off the track. I gently tried to replace it and it snapped. So I decided I didn’t like a product that cost me $11 with the original and replacement and the tape went off track and broke so easily when trying to replace it

I love the Glue Glider Pro. Any other tape runner I’ve tried has not worked well for me. One of the special things about this one is how easy it is to change the cartridge.

I love my Glue Glider Pro – it’s adorable and works great! I love their adhesive squares too. Not a fan of the ribbon adhesive, but I think that’s mostly operator error lol.

I would love to win this basket. I switched to the Glue Glider pro because tape runners didn’t hold enough tape. I made over 400 cards last year. I also love the pink and green color it is easy to find on my messy desk..

Love the articles on the different products. I would also love to win the basket of goodies like everyone else!!
I do not have eother product but have been thinking about purchasing the glue glider products. After reading all the post and information I am now convinced that this is something to add to my supply list. I was disappointed about the decor sheets not workin with the SU punches 🙁 About 90% of my punches are su however I do have the cricut and cuttlebug so if I ever decide to use this product I have a way to cut it. Thanks again for all you wonderful advice

I haven’t tried the sheets but I have tried the roll dispenser. I find it to be ok for truly repositionable uses but I’d never try to keep a card together with it! I use it for adhering masks and templates. My BFF tried using it to adhere cardstock to brown paper bags (thinking it was permanent). She created them flat and made 20 or so for a BD party. When she stood them up to fill them, they promptly fell apart!

Well you probably won’t get this far, reading comments…but I would just like to say I have never used one of your rolling gagdets becuase I have never had good luck with that kind and have thrown them away when I have tried them. I swore never to buy one again…but I would be delighted to try your’s if I won it!!! lol

I haven’t tried the glue glider pro because it looks kind of bulky, but I’ve also heard really good things about it, so my defenses are dissolving over time. I’m anxious to try the glue squares though! And the wall adhesive sounds tempting for some decor projects I’ve been thinking about. It seems like it would be good for any larger-sized project, not just walls (and the residue wouldn’t matter on a permanent projects.)

I want that basket of glue goodies! Gimmie gimmie gimmie!

I have the Glue Glider Pro dispencer and LOVE it! It is lightweight and works perfect plus you get so much more adhesive in the refills! I should say that I recommend the repositionable adhesive though for paper crafting. . .the Perma Tac is great for some more heavy duty type products, as I’ve been having some difficulty with getting the adhesive strips to release from the roller and run evenly on my paper. I’m not sure why, but sometimes it comes out in globs. . .I may just be my fault and I’m rolling it a bit too fast? Still, I highly RECOMMEND their products and I would love to win all the goodies in the givaway!

What a GREAT basket!! I just recently tried glue glider pro and LOVE it. I’ve battled with many adhesives in my crafting life and have yet to find something I don’t like about this product (I’ve only used the permanent roller version). The only problem is I just ran out!!!

I have used the glue glider and I love it. It is a great adhesive and when I use it I don’t have to keep pulling out a new adhesive. It has plenty to last a long time. Gonna have to try the wall decor it sounds like fun.

I recently bought the Blue Glider Pro and love it. It sticks as well as the red liner tape and of course, is much easier to use. I have recommended it to many friends, who love it as much as I do.
I haven’t tried the wall decor adhesive as of yet. We don’t have any local scrapbook stores anymore, and have to count on Michael’s and A.C. Moore for all my needs (and they don’t carry the Glue Glider Pro yet).

I have not tried these, but would love to. I’ve almost bought the tape dispenser many times, but couldn’t quite decide. I use the Scotch ATG, but I’ve never found refills at a store (just on-line). I’d love to have an alternative that I could walk into any crafting store and pick up. Also, I love being able to cut out adhesive vinyl with my Silhouette, but would really love more freedom in the colors used. I’d love to try the wall adhesive with my cardstock of choice!
