CHA Mega Show 2016 | Hot Product Sneak Peek – Part 2

Reported by Maria del Pinto

Pen Blade

One of the most impressive products that I saw demonstrated at the CHA Hot Product Sneak Peek was the PenBlade. There are three different blade types offered by the company:

  • #10
  • #11P
  • #15
Pen Blade has three tip choices

Each blade has a different purpose and can be used for intricate work.

Pen Blade Cuts through leather.

The PenBlade has a retractable blade that works like a click pen. A click on the button will push the blade out and then another press on the button will retract the blade. This allows the user to retract the blade without repositioning their hand. Additionally, the blades are made of stainless steel and are very sharp. The PenBlade can be used either right or left handed. Because of its design, there are no sharp edges to get caught when the pen is not in use (as long as you remember to click it closed). I also found it really confortable to hold. The PenBlade also includes the ability to trim thread while the blade is not retracted by threading it through the safety tip.

The next product that caught my eye at the CHA Hot Product Sneak Peek was the “i-loom”.

i-Loom - iPad Bracelet Loom

The i-loom and its accompanying app are the next generation of friendship bracelet making tools.

i-Loom - iPad Bracelet Loom Machine

The i-loom app pairs up the i-loom with the user’s iPad to create a classroom-like experience. The various knots and patterns are demonstrated through video on the iPad. The i-loom is interactive through the i-loom app, which allows for the user to swiftly go through the videos, patterns and tutorials to find what they need. The app allows the user to create their own patterns for the i-loom, as well as to use the many patterns that the app offers. The i-loom app teaches a range of simple to complex knotting techniques which can then be applied to complete some fun projects.

I love to make jewelry, so obviously any new jewelry making tools are going to catch my eye!  My new favorite is the new Beadalon Bangle Bracelet Weaver Tool!

Beadalon Bangle Bracelet Weaver Tool

Since Beadalon was at the Hot Products Event showing off their new “Bangle Bracelet Weaver Tool” by Kleshna Handel, I got a chance to see the set-up of this tool. It is pretty simple and straightforward.

The Beadalon Bracelet Weaver Tool is made of an Aluminum Base, and includes 22 pins and 44 holders.  This tool can be used to create three different sizes of bracelets using wire and other materials. The tool retails for an affordable $35.99.

Kleshna Handel has designed some fun patterns that are available on the Beadalon website for her fans to try. I love that this tool allows the user to be truly creative in the materials they choose to use!

Among the samples displayed in the booth, there was a bangle made of wire and jeans. Another one was made of wire and plastic trash bags. The ability to make jewelry out of a multitude of materials, including recycled materials, is so exciting!

CHA Mega Show 2016 | Seth Apter The Altered Page for Spellbinders

Reported by Maria del Pinto

Seth Apter Spellbinders Die Line

Today, I’m bringing you a peek at the hot new Spellbinders mixed media product line from Seth Apter that was shown at the CHA Mega Show 2016 last month, as well as a look at some of his projects he had on display that were made using tools from his new line.

Seth Apter is well-known not only for his art, but also for his beautiful altered pieces. Some of you may be familiar with him from his frequent appearances in the pages of “Cloth, Paper, Scissors” magazine. His blog, The Altered Page, is the origin of the name for his product line.

This is Seth’s first line of mixed media products and tools with Spellbinders. The release includes dies, stamps, embossing folders, and a book kit. Elements from the new line of products are designed to work together, with many of the stamps and dies complementing each other.

Some of the different dies in Seth’s line are sized to be mixed and matched (a great excuse for me to purchase all three sets that I have my eye on). There is also a book kit that includes a 3-ring binder, tabbed pages, and a steel rule die, which allows the users to cut out their own pages.

As you can see, the book kit provides a wonderful base to express your own creativity. Seth also has a “Change a Page” die line that can be used to make some fun pages and covers to help create your notebook. If you are following my date book and journal series, you know I love field notebooks, so this goes to the top of my own must have list.

You can see more about the book kit at the Spellbinders website or on Seth Apter’s The Altered Page site. This new product line can be used to create a vast variety of mixed media projects. Seth’s display at the CHA 2016 Mega Show featured over 16 different projects that were made using various dies from his new mixed media line which you can see in the video.

I emailed Seth to get a little more information about this great line and here is what he told me:

I am hoping to bridge the divide between people that call themselves mixed media artists and people who call themselves crafters. I would love for traditional crafters to be more comfortable with stepping out of their comfort zone and using some abstract design in a mixed media format. And I would love some mixed media artists, who often are hesitant to use dies and embossing folders, to be more open to these kinds of products more typically associated with crafters.

The products are all designed to work together, with many of the stamps and dies complimenting each other. And many of the different dies in the different sets are sized to be mixed and matched.

CHA Mega Show 2016 Hot Products: Boye, Offray, Adtech

Reported by Maria del Pinto

This year the “Hot Product” sneak peek at the CHA Mega Show 2016 was full of fun new craft products that had a wide range of age appeal. There were products for kids and adults that spanned from crocheting to cupcake decorating!

For those who love to crochet on the go, the folks at Boye have a new crochet tool called “Crochet on the Go.”

This is a pretty handy tool that includes 8 different hooks (4 on each side) that fold up into a tool the size of a multi tool pocket knife.  I have to say that using it does require a bit of getting used to it.

I have really small hands, so I got hand fatigue using the tool. However, my friend who has larger hands that tried it out loved it. The idea is great for keeping it in a traveling crochet bag or for trips for emergency crochet projects or repairs.

Scented Hot Glue Sticks from Adtech

Another fun tool was the scented hot glue sticks from Adtech. These glue sticks release scents when heated which make crafting a fragrance filled experience. The four scents introduced at CHA are: pumpkin pie, apple cinnamon, french vanilla, and christmas tree. I have to say that the french vanilla was my favorite!

The Bow Genius Bow Making Tool

Our next top hot product was the “Bow Genius”  tool from Offray. This new tool is an upgrade from the traditional wood bow making tools. The “Bow Genius” is made of plastic and is far easier to use than the previous wood versions. The plastic is smooth, so it does not snag ribbon or fabric. This tool enables the user to make all types and sizes of bows from a variety of materials.

The Bow Genius tool is easy to use! Just adjust the base to the size bow you want to make, and then drop the ribbon onto it according to the manufacturer’s directions. In minutes, you can make a really cool bow!

These were only a few highlights of the new hot products that were showcased. I will give you a peek at some of the others in the next post!
