I had the perfect opportunity to test out some of the products from Aleene’s “Fabric Fusion” line while I was getting ready for Easter this year. I was making a new Easter basket for my son and needed to adhere some fabric to the inside of it. I actually tried using hot glue first, without much success.
The Fabric Fusion tape is what I tried first, to adhere the top edge of the fabric to the basket. The tape is very sticky, and has a liner on one side so you can position it on your fabric more easily. I really like that you can tear pieces from the roll and don’t have to use scissors to cut each piece.
You can see above that the tape itself is clear and quite thin after you remove the liner paper. This would be great for hemming pants or curtains really quickly and easily. It is even washable! There is also a Peel & Stick Sheets version that you can cut to the correct size for your project – also permanent and machine washable. I am hoping to use those sheets for future applique and patching projects.
Next, I tried the Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Permanent Fabric Adhesive (liquid glue) to tuck in the fabric along the bottom of the basket. I thought this would be easier than the tape since it was at an awkward angle and had some folds in the fabric. Turns out I should have tested the glue on a scrap piece first. The consistency was much different than I expected because I was thinking that it would be similar to Aleene’s Tacky Glue. This Fabric Fusion is much thinner, so when I did a big squeeze I got a big blob of glue in the basket.
I was able to move the glue around a bit, but you can see above that there is some excess shiny glue along the edge of the basket.
Overall I’m happy with the way the basket turned out, and the Fabric Fusion products were just what I needed to get it done.
- Fabric Fusion Tape is easy and quick to use – love tearing the tape off the roll!
- The Fabric Fusion line doesn’t require sewing or ironing for permanent adhesion.
- Versatile, not just for hemming pants!
- Fabric Fusion Glue was runny and harder to control in a small area, and you need to allow for drying time.
- Not for use with synthetic or stretchy fabric.
