fiskars scissors

I was so excited to try out these shears. I’ve long been a fan of Fiskars scissors for all my crafting and was looking forward to giving these a trial run in my mixed media projects.

The Amplify shears are designed with a large handle and long blades which makes cutting a variety of materials pretty easy.

Here’s a few highlights of the outstanding qualities of these shears:

Multiple layers. I was able to cut several layers of canvas at once for stretching over frames, and the shears cut it with ease. Additionally I’ll add that the shears cut evenly and with very clean edged cuts.

Large Handle Loops. I don’t have the smallest hands, and I found the handle loops to be the perfect angle and comfortable while in my hand.

Blades. While I was cutting leather for a recent project, the stainless steel blades cut all the way to the tip of the blade. Unlike other shorter blade scissors the 10” blade made for fewer cuts. Overall the cuts were smooth and precise.

Safety Sheath. I can appreciate the plastic sheath that is included with the Amplify shears. While I do have to be disciplined to place the shears in it at the end of a work session I know that using it will keep my shears in good shape protecting the $39.99 (MSRP)  investment – and also any kids that may be around.

I will say that these shears are slightly on the heavy side but, that comes with the territory of using a good pair of scissors. Without the weight and construction of these shears, they couldn’t get the job done nearly as well.

In closing, I would recommend these scissors to any mixed media artist. In fact I could find a use for these shears in many different crafting arenas. If you’re looking for a heavy duty cutting workhorse for your craft room you’ll be pleased with the addition of the Fiskars Amplify Shears.

Pros:

  • Ability to cut thick materials
  • Clean cuts from base to tip of blade
  • Comfort

Cons:

  • Weight

Fiskars Amplify 10″ Mixed Media Shears are available now and have an MSRP of $39.99, but currently can be purchased for $23.21 on Amazon.com.

Review | Close To My Heart Non-Stick Micro-Tip Scissors

Close To My Heart Micro-Tip Scissors

What is the one thing that all crafters need? A great pair of scissors! I had the chance to review the Close To My Heart Non-Stick Micro-Tip Scissors, and I think this pair would be a great addition to your paper crafting tools.

Close To My Heart Micro-Tip Scissors

At first glance they look like fairly a basic tool, but the blades are actually very sharp, non stick coated, and smooth cutting.

Admittedly, I have a bunch of detail-type scissors. I rounded up four pairs to use for comparison in this review! The blades on this Close To My Heart pair most closely resembles the Cutter Bee non stick pair of scissors.  Both have a special coating that allows you to use these scissors when cutting through adhesive – everything wipes off easily when you’re done.  Both pairs also have small blades that measure just under 3 inches from tip to joint and 5 inches from end to end.

Close To My Heart Scissors Review

After using the scissors on a few pieces of scrap paper I decided to actually make a card.

It was easy to use these ones for fussy cutting small stamped images. But after cutting out this whale twice, I was really wishing the scissors had some padding on the handles.

All of my other small scissors have some kind of rubber on the grip and these ones are all hard plastic. Pretty much my only complaint is that it would get painful to do a lot of cutting with these. I also used them to snip the end of the sentiment banner on my card.

Supplies | Scissors: Close To My Heart Non-Stick Micro-Tip. Paper: Basic Grey, Wassau. Stamps: Stampin’ Up, Lawn Fawn. Ink: Brilliance, Hero Arts.

PROS:

  • Non stick coating and small size make them perfect for cutting scrapbook embellishments and stamped images
  • Smooth cutting and pointy tips for fine details
  • Blade cover is nice for storage and curious little fingers

CONS:

  • Hard plastic handles get uncomfortable after a couple minutes of cutting

Close To My Heart Non-Stick Micro-Tip Scissors retail for $13.95, and can be purchased through a local CTMH consultant.

Review | Fiskars Amplify Mixed Media Scissors [Video]

Fiskars is synonymous with quality. As a crafter I have many of their products in my craft space and I rely on these products on a daily basis. I never worry about them not being able to perform. From my paper trimmers to scissors, Fiskars has established themselves as a leader in the industry.

I currently own five pairs of Fiskars scissors including my Fiskateer scissors and my grandmother’s scissors that were passed down to me after her passing years ago. I use them daily while I’m crafting, or repairing a hem for my husband, or even opening all my lovely packages from my online shopping addiction habit.

When I was presented with the opportunity to review a pair of scissors from Fiskars I knew I wanted to do a bit more research on the topic. I rounded up all the scissors I own (ten pairs currently) and I did a little test. Some scissors are made for tight spaces. There are scissors for lefty’s like my husband. There are non-stick scissors for sticky substances and there are all-purpose scissors. Each of the scissors I own serve a different purpose and each of them are relied upon to do their job and do it right every time.

  • Even pressure cutting from base to tip
  • Small size blade makes for easy maneuvering and is space saving for storage purposes
  • Full size handle fits comfortably in the hand

  • Price is high for scissors. (But with an available coupon from the major retailers these scissors are very affordable.)
